Daniel Veluzat
Golden Valley girls basketball head coach Daniel Veluzat resigned Tuesday night, after the Grizzlies lost 81-42 to the Valencia Vikings.
Sources said one of the Golden Valley players refused to shake hands with the Vikings in the traditional show of sportsmanship at the end of the game. Veluzat told the player she needed to shake hands and show good sportsmanship, and she again refused.
Shortly thereafter, several parents verbally accosted Veluzat.
Despite Tuesday’s loss, the girl Grizzlies have a winning record at 10 and 7.
Golden Valley Athletic Director Robert Fisher will take over coaching duties on an interim basis. Fisher said in an e-mail: “Unfortunately I can’t discuss the details of what transpired. There (are) always two sides to the story.”

This is pathetic. Of course the GV player should have shook hands with the other teams’ players. That is good sportsmanship and the coach was correct to demand that. The GV parents that verbally accosted the Coach are pathetic. What message are they sending their children? I would like to hear more details but I am saddened that the Coach no longer has a job due to this incident. On the other hand, maybe he is better off…..
