Supervisor Antonovich served in the California State Legislature when Ronald Reagan was Governor, was his representative on the Platform Committee at the 1976 Republican National Convention, and his appointee to a number of federal commissions. In 1993, with President Reagan, his wife Nancy and his son Michael Reagan, Antonovich initiated the “Volunteer of the Year” award at Olive View Hospital which is dedicated to the memory of Ronald Reagan’s mother, Nellie Reagan, who was a volunteer at the hospital.
“A gracious, humble patriot, Ronald Reagan brought hope, respect, dignity and principle to the State House and the White House,” Antonovich said. “Through his leadership, along with Margaret Thatcher and Pope John Paul II, the Berlin Wall collapsed, we saw the end of Soviet communism and the hammer and sickle joined the swastika on the junk pile of history. All Americans and all free peoples across the globe are the heirs of his enduring legacy of freedom, dignity and respect. During his successful days as governor and as the president who led us to prosperity and victory in the Cold War — as well as in his final days when he acknowledged the illness that overcame him — he never lost his common touch.”
Ronald Reagan Day is February 6. 2012.
