The Los Angeles County Fire Department reports that the Potrero fire has been fully contained. A fire watch remains in place until daybreak.
Update Wednesday, 9 p.m. – Reporter Elliott Cohen files this report:
Health HazMat is on scene of the Potrero fire for possible toxic smoke burning in the compost.
Fire Department officials have asked the Air Quality Management Board to send a representative.
Wednesday, 5 p.m.
A compost fire has burned about half an acre out of approximately 6 acres of mulch on the west side of the Santa Clarita Valley.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the compost fire has been dubbed the Potrero Incident because it is burning on The Newhall Land and Farming Co.’s Potrero Canyon property, west of Pico Canyon Road and Stevenson Ranch Parkway. Water drops are underway to get the fire under control.
