1906 - Bercaw General Store opens in Surrey (Saugus) [story]

Several retailers at the Westfield Valencia Town Center are closing their doors due to a lack of performance, according to officials with the companies.

Brookstone in Valencia Town Center is closing at the end of the month, said Pauline Collins, public relations manager for the company.

“Brookstone evaluates store performance on an ongoing basis and operates (more than) 250 retail stores in shopping malls and airports nationwide,” she said.

Ben Bridge Jeweler inside the mall also closed at the beginning of the year, after 10 years at that location.

They opened at the end of 2003, said Marc Bridge, vice president of marketing, but were not able to renew their lease for 2014.

“All of our special orders or repairs are all available to pick up in the Northridge store,” Bridge said.

The Abercrombie and Fitch location in Valencia Town Center has also reportedly closed.

The store could be reached by phone on Wednesday, but the location is no longer listed on the Abercrombie and Fitch website.

The next closest store is in Northridge.

Tom Miller, Westfield Valencia general manager, said in a previous interview that his goal for the shopping center is to attract businesses “that make it interesting and create a little bit of buzz,” he said. “(We want to) give people a reason not to drive over the hill.”

Miller has only been with Westfield Valencia since December, but he said that he sees the mall has central to the SCV, and he wants to continue to strive for excellence.

“We want this to be the fabric of the community,” he said.

  1. Actually, Abercrombie is already closed!

  2. Westfield should put an H&M in the mall. That us what the young crowds are after.

  3. I thought I read somewhere they were putting an H&M in…

  4. haha I’m sure it has nothing to do with insane rent rates.

  5. Brookstone and A&F are on town center drive. I don’t think enough shopping foot traffic is generated there. The whole mall, while interesting in design, is a glom of adhoc shops. At least the patio shops are central to the mall, though feel semi disconnected.

  6. Geez…I can imagine why A&F is out of business….lol. I guess they should have been nicer to large moms.

  7. John Diego John Diego says:

A&F closed? Wow! I can breathe again as I walk by!!

  8. Brian Yelton Brian Yelton says:

Good riddance A&F. Your gargoyle looking CEO drove your business into the dirt.

  9. I also heard H&M was coming soon.
My biggest problem with the mall are the kiosks. I don’t want someone chasing me down trying to get me to use their sea salt scrub or straighten my hair. If you have something I want I’ll stop and take a look, don’t call out to me or follow me trying to get me to try your product.

  10. H&M and Nordstrom will be arriving to Valencia Town Center very soon.

  11. I really dislike a particular store in the mall that claims their products such as creams that contain gold. They have followed me selling their product to me. It was annoying.

  12. Good. Makes space for better stores and a more diverse selection.

  13. would like to see a Torrid and Wet Seal.

  15. Carole Hunt Carole Hunt says:

Not gonna miss those stores. They need new blood there!

  16. John Gilbert John Gilbert says:

All the fun shops I liked got Dinasaured out when Westfield took over management of the mall with the promise to increase revenue for the City. They forced out shops by jacking the rent, and all that was left were fashion boutiques for the for the teenie boppers and Yuppies. Live the Dream, Santa Clarita.

  17. Joseph says:

Someone I was talking to at Brookstone was saying there were other businesses on Town Center Dr leaving when their leases expire in the next couple of years. It seems Westfield is more interested in promoting the Patios by getting some of the businesses on Town Center to relocate, I think they have other plans for that area yet to be announced.

  18. P.F. Chang’s & Cheesecake Factory are two restaurants that would surely make the mall attractive and lure shoppers in to our mall.

  19. John E says:

Word on the street is Nordstrom wants that whole building where A and F was. Gonna tear it down and build a new building. Could be part of the reason for all the movement on the strip. That would help the foot traffic there, too.

  20. Yasmina G. says:

Wait until after November of 2014 and everyone is dropped by the company healthcare and forced into Obamacare then they see how much the rates will increase. Everyone is going to loose out on shopping money and more stores will be closing.
