The Hart District Governing Board approved a three-year agreement with the Hart District Teachers Association at a board meeting Thursday night. The agreement calls for a salary increase, a one-time off-schedule payment, an additional professional development day, and revised language throughout the agreement including a plan to restore class size to previous levels by the 2016-17 school year.
The agreement with the HDTA includes:
• One (1) additional staff development day.
• A four percent (4%) salary increase for the 2014-2015 school year retroactive to July 1, 2014.
• For the 2014-15 school year only, a one-time, off-schedule payment equal to three percent (3.0%) of the 2014-2015 placement on the salary schedule.
• Restoration to previous class size by the 2016-17 school year.
• Development of school calendars through the 2016-17 school year.
“It was a positive experience working with the leadership of the Hart District Teachers Association and with the guidance of the Governing Board,” Dr. Michael Vierra, assistant superintendent of human resources, said. “Collaboratively, both the District and Association were able to develop a collective bargaining agreement that supports the education of Hart District students as well as the teaching staff and District as a whole. The agreement was developed as a tool to continue to support the exemplary learning in the Hart District with a key being the reduction of class size over the next three school years.”
