Update 7:05 p.m.: 100 percent containment, 16 acres.

 

Update 5:52 p.m.: Forward progress of the fire has been knocked down; 10 to 15 acres. Hose lines around 75 percent of the fire.

 

Update 5:30 p.m.: Sigalert issued for slow lane of southbound SR-14 for one hour. Sierra Highway closed at Foothill.

 

A brush fire is burning in Newhall south of Eternal Valley Cemetery between Sierra Highway and the 14 Freeway.

It was first reported at about 4:39 p.m. Sunday.

As of 5 p.m. it was starting to spot on the west side of Sierra.

As of 5:11 p.m., CHP officers are preparing to shut the two slow lanes of southbound SR-14 from Newhall Avenue to Los Pinetos for two to three hours.
