The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is looking for nominations for the 2015 Distinguished Latino Student of the Year. High School seniors within the Class of 2016 are encouraged to enter nominations.
The Student of the Year Award will be presented at the SCV Chamber Latino Business Alliance Gala and Dinner Dance on September 18, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia. As part of that celebration, the chamber will recognize a distinguished Latino student from the Santa Clarita Valley.
If you are such a student, or know someone deserving the honor, please go to http://tinyurl.com/LatinoChamberAp to enter a nomination, or send it to Chris Donald at the SCV Chamber of Commerce, 27451 Tourney Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91355. Nominations must be submitted by Tuesday, September 1, 2015.
Students may be nominated due to their distinguished academic record, exceptional community service volunteerism, or by overcoming considerable personal obstacles.
In addition to the student’s name, phone number and email address, an essay of 500 words or less describing why the senior being nominated deserves to be named the Distinguished Latino Student of the Year must be submitted.
For more information, contact Gala Chair Patsy Ayala at 661-430-3653 or by email at ayalapatsy@gmail.com.

Latino? Do you have one for every race?
I find that offensive to pick the Latino student of the year. That feels racist! It should be Santa Clarita student of the year! Will there be black student OTY? How about Italian student OTY? Maybe Asian studentOTY. Do you see the stupidity of this. I sure do!
Racist?
I am curious…why isn’t it just “SCV Student of the Year”? Also, would a student that has multiple ethnicities, including Latino, be eligible? It’s not racist but definitely discrimination!

Why not be like Highland Park and make it Illegal Alien Student Of The Month. Since the majority of the people living in this Valley are WHITE, why not White Student Of The Month??? Can’t do that, someone may call you RACIST
I would like to apply for White Man of the year! I was born in this country and And I didn’t hop any fence’s or outrun any cop’s to get here!
Can’t think of anything more divisive than to single out by race. Stop playing to a constituency.
