Fresh off their rockin’ set at last Thursday night’s “Senses on Main” block party on, local punkabilly ravers and SCVTV “House Blend” stars Hard Six are among the local Santa Clarita-Ventura bands ripping it up this first weekend of summer 2016 at the 8th Roadshow Revival American roots music festival in Ventura.

Hard Six – featuring Fuse (guitar and lead vocals), Vogelcide (standup and electric bass) and Six (drums, vocals) and usually Ms. DeeDee on vocals – killed it at last year’s Roadshow and are set to take the stage at Mission Park on Saturday at the semi-rock ’n’ roll time of 11:45 a.m.

About two dozen more noted blues-rock-punk-rockabilly bands and solo performers from all over the country will rock the park on two stages Saturday and Sunday. Featured are John Doe, The Blasters, James Intveld, Robert Gordon, Paladins, Cadillac Tramps, and The Walking Phoenixes.

Roadshow Revival also sports a hot rod and motorcycle show, pin-up contest, and dozens of cool merchandise and food vendors.

Mission Park gets packed, and it’s the biggest and best rock ’n’ roll blowout of the year anywhere near Santa Clarita. I’ve attended the last two years and had a blast each time.

Get tickets online at the official Roadshow website. Hard Six invites fans to use the promo code H622016 for a 15 percent discount.

tom nolan bandTom Nolan Band Smokes in Valencia

Singer-guitarist-bandleader Tom Nolan and his smokin’ rock ’n’ soul revue take the stage at Friday night’s edition of the 2016 Valencia Jazz & Blues Summer Concert Series.

One of the series’ most popular regulars, this year Nolan is celebrating the band’s 25th anniversary and release of a new album, “Tip of the Hat.”

Showtime is 7 p.m. on the street outside the Hyatt Valencia at McBean Parkway, and it’s free for all ages. A portion of proceeds from vendor sales go to local charities. Get more info about the concert series and upcoming shows at the official website.

Looking ahead to July 7, “First Thursday” on Main Street in Old Town Newhall presents the monthly “10by10” showcase at the Repertory East Playhouse on Main Street.

The variety night offers local professional and amateur performers a chance to take the stage and perform for a live audience, and for locals to catch some great entertainment for free. The July “First Thursday” talent lineup features award-winning storytellers, filmmakers and comedians, plus a magician.

Organizer Jeff Barber with the city of Santa Clarita Arts & Entertainment crew invites residents to submit an application if you’d like to perform a short live theatre piece, a dance, a monologue, improv, comedy, music, or whatever.

They accept and consider all forms of artistic expression (there are a few restrictions on live music), and each month the A&E guys select 10 performers who each have 10 minutes onstage to perform their piece. Get more details at the “10by10” website.

Groove with fahr.west on ‘House Blend’

Saturday night at 10, SCVTV presents a special encore broadcast of the “House Blend” music and interview show featuring Santa Clarita-based (mostly) acoustic Americana band The fahr.west Sessions.

The band includes leader “Gruven” Tom Lamog (acoustic guitar/vocals); David Fry (acoustic guitar); Arden Acord (fiddle/mandolin); Trout Davis (dobro/harmonica); Mark Davis (cajon/percussion/backing vocals); and Phil Sykes (bass), consummate musicians all.

The guys perform four Gruven Tom originals from the band’s 2013 debut album, “It’s Not Magic, Just Hard Work,” including the title track plus “Songbird,” “Homegrown Blues” and “Got Other Plans.” Between songs, the band members sit down with yours truly the host to talk about the group and the songs.

See “House Blend” on Channel 20 on Time-Warner, Spectrum in the Santa Clarita Valley, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 in Los Angeles and Orange counties, and streaming everywhere else at scvtv.com.

And that’s what’s bumpin’ this week on the SCV Rock Beat.
