Oct 18, 2017: Santa Clarita History Bear Unveiling Ceremony at Old Town Newhall Library

The Santa Clarita City Council is inviting the community to attend the Santa Clarita History Bear Unveiling Ceremony on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Town Newhall Library located at 24500 Main Street in Newhall.

The Santa Clarita History Bear was commissioned by the Canyon Theatre Guild and was painted by artist Frank Rock. The public art piece is part of the California Bear Project, a project developed in August 2004 by the City of Santa Clarita to install life size grizzly bear sculptures throughout the community. Each bear replica measures over 10 feet in length and over five feet tall and represents different Santa Clarita themes.

The Santa Clarita History Bear depicts scenes from Santa Clarita Valley’s history and is the fifth bear sculpture to be displayed in the community. Other bear sculptures are on display at the Santa Clarita Transit Center, Valencia Heritage Park, The Patios at Valencia Town Center and at Golden Valley High School.

You are invited to a reception for the latest exhibit at The MAIN featuring the work of Hollywood artist Phobik. A self-taught artist, Phobik’s work transcends multiple styles, from graphic novel illustration and fine art to mural and interior design.

Phobik draws inspiration for his original comic book illustrations from his personal experiences growing up in Hollywood along with influences from the He-Man cartoon series.

The reception will feature light appetizers, entertainment, and a chance to meet the artist.

Halloween begins on October 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the SENSES Halloween Haunt. Whether you come dressed in your spooky best or transform yourself into a monster onsite, be sure to participate in the Halloween costume contest for a chance to win ghoulish prizes. If thrills are more your thing, prepare yourself for a frightening experience at the SENSES maze. Enjoy live music from The Skinny Little Twits, food from Tainamite and Pacific Pizza Co, and drinks from the on-street bar hosted by 8th and Rail.

The wildly popular SENSES block party, presented by Galpin Subaru, brings live music, food trucks, themed activities and adult beverages to Main Street every Third Thursday from March to October. Don’t miss this fun and festive adult setting right here in Santa Clarita.
