The CSUN women’s golf team fired rounds of 306-309 and is in fourth place, just eight shots off the pace at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Seattle University Invitational at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Tacoma, WA.
At 615, the Matadors trail team-leading North Dakota State (607) by eight strokes. UC Irvine (611) is currently second with Sam Houston State (612) third in the 14-team field.
“Everyone played with a great amount of poise and managed the course very well,” said CSUN head coach Gina Umeck. “The great part about this year is that everyone is a scoring threat, anyone can shoot par or below at any time. That frees everyone up a bit more out there.”
Sophomore Alice Duan continued her impressive fall season Monday as she is tied for third at three-over 147 after posting rounds of 69-78. Duan’s opening round 69 is CSUN’s low round of the season and the best by a Matador golfer since Ysabel Tran also fired a 69 at the Sacramento State Invitational last March.
Senior Shenna DeLeon made it two CSUN players in the top 20 after 36 holes as she is tied for 20th at 10-over 154. DeLeon carded an opening round four-over 76 before posting a six-over 78 in the afternoon round.
Junior Kayla Yn is also in striking distance as she is currently tied for 30th at 13-over 157 after rounds of 80-77. Brooke Hamilton is tied for 58th at 19-over 163 after rebounding from an opening round 87 by posting a second round four-over 76.
Brianna Steger rounded out the CSUN five as she is currently tied for 73rd at 26-over 170 (81-89). Michelle Duan is also competing for the Matadors as an individual and she is tied for 44th at 16-over 160 following rounds of 82-78.
