A man reported missing and possibly suicidal by family members in the Friendly Valley area of Newhall this morning was found by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for evaluation, officials said.
“A family member had indicated he was possibly suicidal and possibly had a firearm and we received notification that he had gone into a bank to do a transaction over in that area,” said Shirley Miller, SCV Sheriff’s Station public information officer.
The bank was the U.S. Bank branch on Sierra Highway in Friendly Valley, Miller said.
“At first we did not know the location of the individual, and (an) Aero Bureau (helicopter) was in the area and assisted us by giving us a bird’s eye view and seeing if he could be located,” she said.
“So deputies contained the area and were able to safely detain the adult male when he came out,” she said. “We didn’t see a firearm at the time. I’m not sure if he actually had one on him, but he was taken to the hospital for evaluation.”
Miller said no charges have been filed against the man, whose identity has not been released.
“Right now we’re just concerned that he gets the help he needs,” she said.
