A man arrested for allegedly burglarizing a Walmart Monday morning posted bail, then was soon arrested again for allegedly vandalizing the Valencia Library, according to officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It appears that the suspect earlier in the day had committed a burglary at Walmart,” said Lt. Chuck Becerra of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

“The Walmart opened at 6:01 this morning, and he allegedly walked into the Walmart, put three TV’s in a basket, and simply pushed them right out the back door,” he said.

“I don’t know if he intended to set off the alarm, but he walked out one of the rear doors and of course set off the alarm. He just stood there and waited for the security detail to show up. The security detail showed up and he said, ‘Take me to jail,'” Becerra said.

“We responded, took custody of him,” he said. “Because of the type of TV’s, he was charged with burglary and petty theft, not grand theft. So because it was a misdemeanor he went through the booking process and was cited out several hours later,” meaning the suspect was given a citation with a promise to appear in court and released from custody.

“He walked out of the station, walked next door to the library, broke the windows in the front door, and stood inside and walked around and waited for us to show up,” Becerra said. “As soon as deputies showed up, he said, ‘Okay, take me to jail.’

“So of course deputies were there right away and made the arrest, and he’s still here,” he said at 6:50 p.m.

Becerra said detectives were questioning the suspect, whose name, age and city of residence he did not have immediately available. Other possible charges related to were window-breaking were pending, he said.

The suspect will be held at the SCV Sheriff’s Station until his arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday, Becerra said.
