David Sedaris, America’s best-selling literary funnyman, returns to the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) for an evening of his captivating and hilarious storytelling on Saturday, May 12 at 8 p.m.

Sedaris last appeared at The Soraya in 2015. In 2017, he released “Theft By Finding,” selections from his diaries, which the NPR calls, “Mesmerizing, like watching spinning chickens.’Theft by Finding’ feels like watching a favorite play from behind the scenes, in the company of a friend who can identify what is absurd and heartbreaking and human about every person on stage.”

On May 28, Sedaris will release “Calypso,” a collection of cheerfully misanthropic stories he calls “beach reading for people who detest beaches, required reading for those who loathe small talk and love a good tumor joke.”

Copies of “Calypso” will be available for pre-order. The first 50 people to pre-order Calypso will receive a bookplate signed by Sedaris. Pre-ordered copies can be mailed or picked up at the CSUN Bookstore starting on May 28. Sedaris will be in the lobby before and after the show to sign copies of his other works. The lobby will open at 6:30 p.m.

Over the years, his many books have ranged on a wide variety of topics from his sister Amy Sedaris’ hijinks to his adventures as an expatriate in Paris. This evening will be filled with Sedaris’ keen observations on life. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers.
