VFW Post 6885 in Canyon Country will host the 7th Annual Help the Children Veterans Appreciation Day celebration on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To honor local veterans, Help the Children will give away home and garden items free to veterans (proof of military service is required).
Sign-ups will begin at 7:30 a.m. The event will include a $2 pancake breakfast, a $2 hot dog lunch and free ice cream for all.
There will be an auction of new backyard barbeques, lawnmowers and other home and garden supplies.
Music will be provided by a live USO big band and a trio of singers a la The Andrew Sisters, who will be in military uniform and available for photo ops.
Local Boy Scouts will perform a U.S. flag retirement ceremony. Event-goers are invited to take flags to retire.
A display of World War II-era Jeeps and a flyover by a squadron of World War II-era aircraft will highlight the afternoon.
