CalArtians are among the esteemed Los Angeles-based dance talent performing at the 7th annual Los Angeles Dance Festival (LADF), which runs throughout the month of April.

Festival Curator Deborah Brockus invites followers of LA’s modern dance scene to an expansive array of performances, community dance classes and workshops.

The 2019 series includes nine dance concerts from 50 companies and 35 master classes. The LADF Main Stage performances take place April 12-14 at the Luckman Theater at California State University Los Angeles (CSULA), and the subsequent Fringe Festival takes place April 26-28 at the Diavolo Studio Black Box in the Arts District.

One notable CalArtian in attendance will be Jacques Heim (Dance MFA 91), artistic director of Diavolo | Architecture in Motion. Heim founded the innovative dance company in 1992 and has since enjoyed incredible acclaim in both local dance spheres and on the international stage. Diavolo are known for their stint as finalists on Season 12 of America’s Got Talent. The dance company partnered with LADF to create the festival.

Other dance companies in the lineup boast CalArts alums as artistic directors, including Sophia Stoller (Dance MFA 15) of Iris Company; Bryn Cohn (Dance BFA 09) of Bryn Cohn + Artists; Rebecca Lemme (Dance MFA 13) of Acts of Matter and Mallory Fabian (Dance BFA 16) of fabe dance.

The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts Assistant Dean Rosanna Gamson also performs on the main stage alongside Rosanna Gamson/World Wide, as well as former dance faculty Lillian Rose Barbeito, with her company BODYTRAFFIC.

CalArtians will also be hosting dance masterclasses for the community, including Lemme, Cohn and Stephanie Zaletel (Dance BFA 12), szalt (dance co.)’s artistic director.

Visit the LADF website for complete lineup information.
