BrianMalette2Transitional Kindergarten teacher and long time Santa Clarita Valley resident Brian Malette teaches four-year-olds during the day at Castaic Elementary School, then heads over to Valencia High School every afternoon to work with the varsity football kicking squad as the varsity coach.

“He is a great guy and a wonderful teacher and coach,” said Charmin Ortega, Executive Supervisor to the Superintendent of Castaic Union School District, in an email to KHTS.
Malette grew up in Castaic and was a student in the Castaic Union School District. He attended Valencia High School, where he was the star kicker for the Valencia High School football team, once kicking 63 yards in practice, tying a world record.

He played football for UCLA as a kicker for one year and then transferred to Missouri Southern, a Division II school with a full ride scholarship, where he also earned his history degree.

After college, Malette came home to Santa Clarita to work as an instructional aid.
“I fell in love with it,” Malette said, “so I got my credentials.”

Malette currently teaches four and five year-olds, and says he enjoys doing so.

When I was given the opportunity to hire Brian Malette as our new TK teacher, I was more than excited,” said Denise Davis, Principal at Castaic Elementary School. “Brian went through the Castaic School System (in fact, he was in my 6th grade class) and was employed as an instructional assistant at Castaic Elementary School for several years. Brian brings a lot of energy and passion to our school every day!”

Malette is also the Special Teams coach for Valencia High School’s varsity football team, who just won their 7th league championship.

“I’ve been really fortunate to not only play in college, but to also coach some very talented kids,” Malette said.

One of the students Malette coached was offered a full ride scholarship to Syracuse University, and another student is now the number one junior college kicker for College of the Canyons.

Malette also coaches Valencia High School’s soccer team.

He says his present and future look bright, which is a welcomed change from a rough Summer.

“My mom had a stroke a few months ago,” Malette said, “so Summer was rough, but she’s

doing so much better.”

Being the sports lover that he is, Malette also holds kicking lessons on Sundays for 7th and 8th grade future Valencia High School kickers.

“I want these kids to do well in sports,” Malette said, referring to the many kids he teaches/mentors, “but I also really want them to do well in school too.”
