Don Fleming

[SCVEDC] – The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corp. is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Don Fleming, owner of Valencia Acura, as co-chairman of the board of directors for a second term.

Fleming was quickly and unanimously voted for re-election at the organization’s quarterly board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1.

“I am appreciative and humbly accept the opportunity to serve as a co-chairman for the EDC for another 2-year term,” said Fleming. “It has been a joy to be a part of such a dynamic organization. We are making significant strides and it’s exciting to be a driving force of those efforts,” he added.

Fleming will join fellow Co-Chairman Calvin Hedman of Hedman Partners in leading the organization’s efforts to strengthen the Valley’s economy.  Hedman’s term will be up for re-election in November 2013.

“Don and I are very proud of the EDC and its accomplishments. We have an incredibly passionate and creative Board of Directors that has led the organization to many successes,” Hedman remarked. “I look forward to continuing our work together,” he added.

Don Fleming is the co-owner of Valencia Acura with wife Cheri. Together, they have elevated the local dealership to one of the “Top 25 in America” since their purchase in 1997.

The co-chair structure is designed to maximize the unique talents of SCVEDC’s top leaders.

“We are blessed with strong leadership at SCVEDC. The co-chair model allows us to pursue multiple projects by leveraging the networks and abilities of our co-chairs,” noted SCVEDC President/CEO Jonas Peterson.  “To date, this leadership has made the SCVEDC one of the most productive in California,” he added.

In addition to his extensive business experience, Fleming is a prominent figure in the Santa Clarita community, recognized for outstanding community service. In 2011 Fleming was featured as the, “the most interesting man in the world” in the SCV Signal and honored with wife Cheri by the American Cancer Society.  In 2009 he was selected by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors as Volunteer of the Year. Also, Fleming currently serves as President of the Santa Clarita Valley Auto Dealers Association, is a director of the Santa Clarita Valley Boys and Girls Club and is a past chair of Henry Mayo Memorial Hospitals Foundation Board.
