Around the CapitolLeaving No Hero Untreated

Check out my column that ran in The Hill last week about our No Hero Left Untreated Act. This legislation would establish a pilot program at the VA for veterans enduring mental health issues based on a promising new neurological treatment pioneered by the Brain Treatment Center. Read it here!

Examining Executive Orders

On Tuesday morning I participated in a House Small Business Committee hearing on the negative impacts of recent executive orders on small businesses. The panelists echoed the same worries as many of the small business owners and employees that I’ve talked to in our community- check out this article in the Simi Valley Acorn to learn more about those conversations.

Safeguarding Our Elections

Last week I also took part in an interesting House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology hearing titled “Protecting the 2016 Elections from Cyber and Voting Machine Attacks.” I look forward to continuing to work on this important issue.

I started my morning Wednesday with a meeting with some veterans from California who sit on the VFW National Legislative Committee. We had a great discussion about the need to improve VA benefits and decrease wait times at the VA. Thanks for stopping by!

Small Business Guardian

It was an honor to receive the “Small Business Guardian Award” last week from the National Federation for Independent Businesses for my 100% voting record on small business issues. Thank you for the recognition, I’m truly honored.

Fixing the VA
On Wednesday the House passed the VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act, of which I am proud cosponsor. This bill would address a variety of common complaints at the VA by strengthening protections for whistleblowers, modifying the way veterans can appeal determinations on their disability benefits, and restructuring the termination and demotion processes for VA employees guilty of underperformance or misconduct.
