Veterans Bill Moving Forward

Very exciting news! The No Hero Left Untreated Act, which I introduced in June, passed out of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs with unanimous, bipartisan support last week. This bill would expand on a promising technology that could bring relief to our veterans, and I am pleased that it is moving forward. It was great to host KHTS AM 1220 and a group of outstanding members of the Santa Clarita community that were visiting Washington, D.C. for meetings, tours, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. B-21 Raider

Last Monday the United States Air Force announced that the new long-range strike bomber is officially named the B-21 Raider in honor of the Doolittle Raiders from World War II. I look forward to continuing to work on this project so we can fulfill our national security priorities in a timely and cost-effective manner and bring thousands of high-quality jobs to the Antelope Valley.

Pushing Back on a Federal Mandate

Last week I cosponsored a bill that would delay the implementation of the Department of Labor’s impending overtime rule. This drastic and abrupt change in federal overtime regulations poses a major threat to our small business community in terms of compliance costs and potential pay reductions for workers. This legislation would provide breathing room to those entities and employees that will be hit hardest so they can take steps to mitigate some of the negative impacts.

Standing Up for Seniors and Vets

On Thursday night I was honored by The Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC) for advocating and fighting for seniors and veterans. I firmly believe that we must act to ensure that our seniors and veterans have access to the services they deserve today and tomorrow. That means taking steps now to strengthen Social Security so that it is available for our current retirees as well as our children, and it means improving the care that the VA offers to our veterans. Thank you to AMAC founder & President Dan Weber for the award and for AMAC’s support for the No Hero Left Untreated Act.

Remembering the Missing In Simi Valley Earlier this month on POW-MIA Day I had the honor of attending the POW-MIA Remembrance Day program hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars District 7 in Simi Valley. It was an incredibly moving event, and I thank VFW District 7 Commander Marty Yingling and everyone else who helped put it on. Speaking at the  POW-MIA Remembrance Day Ceremony in Simi Valley Honoring A Local Hero On Tuesday morning during Coffee for Vets at Crazy Otto’s Diner Avenue I my office presented a Certificate of Recognition and an American flag to Felix Jamison in honor of his 100th Year and his service to our country during WWll. Recognizing Felix Jamison for his service to our country Well-Deserved Recognition Earlier this month my office attended an event at LARC Ranch in Santa Clarita where Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich was presented the LARC Lifetime Achievement Award. We presented him with a certificate of recognition for his long record of service to LARC and our community. Thanking Supervisor Antonovich at LARC Ranch Solar Car Challenge Congratulations to the Palmdale High School Falcon Race Team that recently took third place in the 2016 Solar Car Challenge last week. The team was awarded the Antelope Valley AQMD WM. “PETE” KNIGHT Achievement In Reducing Emissions (AIRE) Award. The Solar Car Challenge is designed to motivate students in science, engineering, and alternative energy. Students learn how to design, engineer, build, and race roadworthy solar cars.
