California’s Assembly Appropriations Committee plans to review the Santa Clarita Valley Water District bill, SB 634, on September 1, Assembly officials said Wednesday.
Senate Bill 634 would reorganize the Castaic Lake Water Agency and the Newhall County Water District into the Santa Clarita Valley Water District to provide, sell, manage and deliver water at retail or wholesale within the district’s territory.
The bill, authored by Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, also provides for the dissolution of the Valencia Water Company and the transfer of the company’s assets, property, liabilities, and indebtedness to the SCVWD, as specified.
“We’re not going to have a decision until September 1,” Wilk said, noting he was meeting with lawmakers in a 1-on-1 capacity to explain the details of the bill, and that he had waived an opportunity to present the bill.

People should be able to vote on this water heist. Why si Wilk and the legislator taking our vote away from us?
Wilk amended this bill for the fifth time on August 21,2017. In that change he he deleted in Section 1 “In addition, the agency owns the stock of the Valencia Water Company, which provides retail water service in the valley and has approximately 31,350 service connections”.
Why? They (CLWA) receive stock dividends of $799,000 a year from the Valencia ratepayers.
Why are some of the Castaic Lake Water Agency board members on the board of the Upper Santa Clara Valley Joint Powers Authority which just approved , not to exceed $50 million Refunding Revenue Bonds. Will they be listed in the CLWA debt limit or restriction?
