Two men suspected of carjacking a vehicle in Bakersfield were arrested by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies Monday afternoon in Castaic.
“We arrested two male adults in a vehicle reported being taken in a carjacking,” said Sgt. Chris Maurizi, of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
The suspects arrested are 19-year-old Elijah Metcalf, of Bakersfield, and 25-year-old Isaac Alvarado, of Arvin, said SCV Sheriff’s Station spokeswoman Shirley Miller. They were booked on suspicion of four felony charges: illegal possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, reasonable cause carjacking and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
They were also booked on suspicion of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and infraction possession of marijuana.
A deputy saw the vehicle at Castaic Road and Parker Road around 4 p.m., and ran the plates, Maurizi said. The car was identified as the one involved in a carjacking and the deputy detained the suspects at gunpoint, which is standard protocol for carjacking suspects, until backup arrived.
Two firearms, one a BB gun and one a Flintlock pistol, were recovered from the vehicle as well as a glass pipe and scale, Maurizi said. The BB gun is believed to be the firearm used in the carjacking, which took place on September 1.
The Bakersfield Police Department will be investigating the incident, Maurizi said.
No injuries were reported and no shots were fired.
