Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit
During the past week Newhall (Zone 6) had five reported Part-1 crimes. Newhall saw one reported vehicle burglary, one residential burglary, one arson, one assault, and one shoplifting theft.
On Saturday, 01/05/2013, at approximately 3:00 a.m., an incident of vehicle arson was reported in the area of Newhall Avenue and the SR-14 (freeway). When deputies arrived they observed an SUV completely on fire. This vehicle fire is currently under investigation as arson. No further information is avail at this time. (ref -00206).
A vehicle burglary reportedly took place on Saturday, 01/05/2013, between 1:00 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. The driver’s side window was smashed and the suspect(s) made entry into the vehicle. A briefcase was stolen. The incident occurred in the 25000 block of Peachland Avenue (ref -00210).
A shoplifting incident occurred where alcohol was stolen on Sunday, 01/06/2013, at approximately 2:10 p.m. This incident occurred at a supermarket located in the 24100 block of Lyons Avenue (ref -00255).
Numerous arrests continue to be made by proactive deputies assigned to patrol in Newhall (Zone 6). On Monday, 12/31/2012, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Wiley Canyon Road and La Glorita Circle in Newhall. The vehicle the deputy pulled over displayed 2013 registration tabs when the vehicle’s registration was actually expired. After an investigation a 29 year-old female was arrested for possession of a switchblade, false display of registration tabs, and driving on a suspended license.
