Only one man has been charged in what was initially reported as a double-stabbing at a home in the 28800 block of Loretta Lane in Canyon Country. Raymundo Soto, 35, faces two felony counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for an incident that occurred Feb. 29.
According to sheriff’s officials during the early evening of February 29 the victim, Daniel Muir, returned home after a year’s absence to find that his wife, Jessica Jackson, 30, was now living in the home with Soto. While Muir was gathering his belongings he was allegedly attacked by Soto with a knife. Muir suffered eight stab wounds but managed to escape and run to a neighbor’s home for help.
Authorities say Soto was also injured during the altercation and received self-inflicted stab wounds. Both men were transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo Hospital.
Soto was taken into custody on April 4 and was found in possession of a firearm which lead to additional misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a concealed firearm within city limits.
Jackson was arrested on the same day as Soto, but the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office did not file charges. She was released on April 6.
At his hearing Friday in Department S of the San Fernando Courthouse, Soto plead not guilty. His preliminary setting hearing has been moved to April 16 in Department 38 in downtown Los Angeles.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m. on the night of alleged murder attempt rescue personnel from Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call for a stabbing victim in the 28800 block of Loretta Lane in Canyon Country. What authorities discovered were two victims with stab wounds.
Soto was not arrested that night pending a further investigation.
