On Monday, around 3:00 p.m., Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Via Princessa in Canyon Country regarding a child who was hit by a vehicle.
Upon deputies’ arrival, they learned that the child was struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk with other children near a Canyon Country elementary school. The child was airlifted to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The single-vehicle vs. pedestrian collision is under investigation by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Traffic Office, to ascertain what factors caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle, and veer into the sidewalk, striking the child and a traffic signal pole. Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor.
