The city of Santa Clarita website’s emergency page is keeping local residents up to date on school and road closures and other impacts of the Saddleridge Fire.

Here’s what’s happening on the emergency page as of Friday mid-afternoon:

Update 3:21 p.m.
CHP reports that southbound lanes of the 5 freeway through Santa Clarita have been reopened. Northbound lanes remain closed and other closures remain in place.

Update 1:40 p.m.
LAFD officials reported that the Saddleridge Fire has grown to approximately 7,500 acres in size and is 13% contained.

Bella Vida, the SCV Senior Center, has advised the City that it will be closed for the remainder of the day.

Update 11:11 a.m.
All City drop-in and scheduled programming at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Gymnasium and Aquatic Center are canceled for the remainder of the day.

Update 10:51 a.m.
According to CHP and Caltrans officials, the 118 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley has reopened. An updated list of road closures can be found by clicking the Road Closures tab above.

Update 9:55 a.m.
Waste Management has informed the City that the Saddleridge Fire is causing significant service delays for customers with Friday pickups in Santa Clarita. Waste Management will conduct multiple collection routes for Saturday, October 12, to catch up on routes not completed Friday.

Update 8:57 a.m.
Metrolink trains on the Antelope Valley Line through Santa Clarita are NOT IN SERVICE today.

All City programming for Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Aquatics and contract classes has been canceled for today.

Update 8:06 a.m.
CalArts is canceling all classes today.

The Newhall Community Center and Canyon Country Community Center are CLOSED today.

Update 7:55 a.m.
College of the Canyons will be CLOSED today as well.

Primetime Preschool will be CLOSED at all locations today.

The Saddleridge Fire has now burned 4,700 acres with zero containment.

Update 7:41 a.m.
Castaic School District and Saugus Union schools will be CLOSED today.

A press conference is getting underway now at the Command Center.

Update 7:00 a.m.
Traffic on the 126 is jammed with commuters trying to avoid the closures on Interstate 5, the Old Road and the 14 Freeway. If you don’t need to leave the City today, please stay off the roads.

There are reports of a power line down on Whites Canyon at Ranier in Canyon Country. If you see a downed power line, do not touch it and immediately call 9-1-1.

Update 6:30 a.m.
The Hart District, Sulphur Springs and Newhall School Districts will be CLOSED today.

Update 5:30 a.m.
Traffic is jammed going southbound on Interstate 5 and the Old Road, which both still remain closed at Calgrove. You will not be able to get through on either route. The only way to get around is to take the 126 to the 101.

The Antelope Valley Line will NOT be running this morning due to fire near the tracks.

Santa Clarita Transit commuter routes are unable to operate because of the closures.

If you can work from home today, please do.

The fire is currently burning right up to the 14 Freeway. Once the sun comes up, winds are predicted to kick up again. Please remain alert.
