[KHTS] – The Castaic Lake Water Agency Open House event promoted water conservation and shared gardening tips in Central Park Saturday.
The free CLWA event took place from 9 am to 2 pm at Central Park in Saugus.
As attendees entered from the parking lot, they passed the “H20, Where Did You Go?” play, which stressed the importance of water through a two-man comedic performance for children.
Karen Denkinger, event coordinator for the CLWA, said the Open House provided an opportunity for Santa Clarita residents to learn new skills and become educated about water conservation.
“May is California water awareness month and every year in May [the CLWA has] an open house,” Denkinger said. “We want to bring water awareness and give people the tools they need to save water and help make them more aware of this precious resource.”
Free gardening classes on roses, irises, gardening by the foot and composting were provided at the event, with various starting times between 9 am and 12 pm, according to a flyer released by the CLWA.
Placerita Nature Center was present at the Open House, and brought along several friends, including an owl, two snakes, a tortoise and more.
Free Fresher’s soft frozen lemonade and popcorn were given out to attendees in Central Park and children were able to take advantage of the free face-painting booth.
A shuttle was provided for residents who could not drive to the event, or wished to take advantage of this green alternative.
Various vendors and agencies had booths set up at the event to provide water-saving tips and tools, including the Castaic Lake Water Agency, Newhall County Water District, Valencia Water Company, Santa Clarita Water Division, Edison Power and more.
