College of the Canyons men’s basketball player Rafael Love has been named a First-Team All-State honoree by the California Community College Athletic AssociationsMen’s Basketball Coaches Association. Love is the 11th Cougar in school history to be named to the All-State team, and the first since Andre Murray was named to the squad in 2007.
Love led the Cougars in scoring this season, averaging 17.9 ppg and ranking third in the conference. He was also COC’s top rebounder, tallying 200 boards to go along with 46 steals. He also shot 79.4 percent (104-of-131) from the free throw line.
Love is the fifth player to earn All-State accolades under COC head coach Howard Fisher. Durrell Davis was an All-State honoree in 2004, while Carlton Spencer earned a selection in 2004 and 2005 and Murray won the same honor in 2007.
The award comes on the heels of the announcement that Love was also named First-Team All-Conference for the second year in a row. COC sophomore forward Wes Bartole and sophomore guard Brad Wyche were also honored as a first-team selections.
