[KHTS] – Coroner’s officials have identified Rick Tanovan, 52, of West Covina, as the person whose body was retrieved Sunday afternoon from Pyramid Lake.

Rick Tanovan
“At 11:20 a.m. (Sunday), a deputy with the Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau, assigned to patrol Pyramid Lake, was flagged down by a man on a jet ski who said he had seen something suspicious in the south part of Pyramid Lake, near Chumash Island,” a deputy wrote.
Deputies responded to investigate and found the bow of a boat sticking up out of the water.
A short distance away, deputies found a man beneath the water. Deputies pulled him from the water and immediately administered CPR. However, the deputies were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man appeared to have drowned, but the cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
Deputies also received information that the victim may have been accompanied by a second man.
As a result, LASD Emergency Services Detail continued an underwater search and, with the assistance of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the use of watercraft has also been implemented.
There are no signs of damage to the boat that was found, and no obvious signs of physical trauma to the man who was pulled from the water. Also, there is no preliminary sign of foul play, however the investigation continues.

I don’t understand. If the bow of the boat was sticking out of the water – that means it sunk, but yet the article says there was no damage to the boat?? Am I missing something?
RIP
A boat can sink with no visible damage.
A drain plug in the stern can be accidentally loose or missing causing it to flood.
It would seem that the victim could not swim or was incapacitated. If you cannot swim you should (A) never go out on a boat alone and (B) never go out on the water without wearing a properly-fitting USCG-approved life vest. This sort of thing happens often and it is almost always very preventable. So very sad.
Pyramid needs to keep track of how many people are on each boat like they do at Castaic when you enter to launch your boat.
