After a short pursuit, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies helped Los Angeles Police Department officers arrest a parolee who worked at a local Verizon store in the 28200 block of Seco Canyon Road, a sheriff’s official said Thursday.
John Coleman, 28, was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation being conducted by officers with the LAPD’s Devonshire Division.
“Three officers went in the front to talk to (Coleman), and he sees a guy running across the parking lot with an LAPD sergeant running behind him,” said Lt. Mark Hershey.
A Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s sergeant who was accompanying the officers to help coordinate communication cut off the suspect with his car, but the suspect managed to evade the deputy.
The suspect, however, ended up being chased back into the containment, and while the suspect thought he had lost the officers chasing him, he hid next some dumpster that were positioned behind a retaining wall behind the stores at the Saugus shopping center.
Since an LAPD officer watched the suspect hide in the dumpster area, he waited for backup while the suspect remained hiding, and then yelled for the suspect, who had trapped himself in the dumpster area, to get out, Hershey said.
Coleman was arrested and booked at the LAPD’s Van Nuys Division.
“All we know he is a parolee at large, that’s a no-bail warrant for his parole,” Hershey said.
LAPD officers did not release details about the investigation.
