Find out about the Santa Clarita Valley’s earliest inhabitants Sunday at 2 p.m. when COC Anthropology Professor Laurie Solis gives a talk at the Placerita Nature Center.

The lecture will cover the history of the Tataviam people, the native American group that lived in the Santa Clarita Valley as well as the northern San Fernando and southern Antelope valleys prior to (and after) the arrival of Europeans.

Solis, who has conducted investigations of native sites and authored the book, “Tataviam: People Who Face the Sun,” will discuss the ethnography of the Tataviam as well as archaeological evidence including manos, mutates, projectile points and scrapers, which children will be able to examine.

The event is presented by the Community Hiking Club, Placerita Canyon Nature Center Associates and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation.

The Placerita Nature Center is located off of Placerita Canyon Road, east of the 14 Freeway.
