1842 - California's first mining district established in SCV; Ygnacio del Valle, chairman [story]

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) released the following statement after House Republicans passed proposed tax reform bill HR 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, on Thursday.

“The Republican tax cut bill was written to help the rich at the expense of the middle class. That’s the bottom line, and that’s why this bill needs to be voted down.

“The main priority for Republicans is permanent tax cuts for rich individuals and big corporations. In return, they’re offering long-term tax increases for working families and an attack on the Affordable Care Act. And that’s just not acceptable.

“The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that in 2021, families earning between $10,000 to $30,000 would pay an additional $5.8 billion more in taxes. And by 2027, families earning less than $75,000 would pay an additional $27 billion in taxes.Tax Cuts and Jobs Act logo

Meanwhile, millionaires would see a tax cut of $5.5 billion. This is appalling.

“Californians will be hit especially hard by the elimination of the state and local tax deduction, or what we call SALT. The six million California households that claim the deduction could either see their tax bill go up or see cuts to vital services like schools and roads. Middle-class communities simply can’t afford to lose this important deduction.

“In order to cut taxes for the rich, Republicans want to add almost $1.5 trillion to our deficit over the next decade. The increased deficit will quickly become an excuse for Republicans to make drastic cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in the future. Americans who benefit from these essential programs shouldn’t be the victims of tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

“Democrats want tax reform that helps all Americans get ahead. Instead, the Republican plan leaves the middle class holding the bill.”

The U.S. Senate is expected to take up its version after the Thanksgiving recess.

Not seeing it. But we do see some strange comments from people who don’t seem to realize we’re in California (the bluest state of all).

  2. That’s it Santa Clarita, feed these people more liberal BS

  3. You guys elected this flaming communist liberal pinko

  4. Most of the Valencia wannabes will lose! #youelectedhim

    • Jeff Barkes says:

Gus Garcia Jr.- Will most of the Valencia wannabes lose more due to the 18 cent per gallon gas tax increase or the tax plan? With your background you know MOST Californians do not pay ANY state income tax (bottom 60% pay only 2% of what the state collects in taxes), however EVERY driver pays the .18 per gallon. How disingenuous to criticize this tax package by saying its bad for the middle class and yet SUPPORT those who passed a tax that hurts the POOR and the MIDDLE class disproportionately. #youelectedthemall #ijustaskforconsistency

    • Jeff Barkes, business mileage is all deductible. Continue to grow the biz. Hello.

    • Jeff Barkes says:

Doesnt quite answer the question Gus Garcia Jr. as to which tax “plan” will effect the lower/middle class of California more however of all the people I have asked that to, no one wants to seem to give me an answer!

    • Jeff Barkes says:

Hope you’re well. Long time, no see

    • Don’t assume I support high gasoline taxes nor the lower class Jeff Barkes. A beer will get you a complete opinion. For now: MNF: GO for the birds ?

  5. Typical liberal blah blah blah. Isn’t it funny how RICH they get for holding a public office on a fixed salary? STFU and retire already

  6. John Gilbert says:

She’s pissed that nixing the Fed deduction for State Income Tax will make people wake up and want to know where thier tax money in this State is really spent, which will be hard as there’s no fiscal responsibility in Sacto. Overbudget ? Raise Taxes. Not spending the gas tax money dedicated for infastructure on roads and bridges? Raise the gas tax. And on and on……. Welcome to “The General Fund Laundramat.”

  7. SCVLove says:

Its shocking to see how some people live life so close-minded. Those people are the problem with the world in entirety.
