The City of Santa Clarita is proud to share that 2,600 pounds of food was collected in August as part of the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry’s Summer Food Drive.  Food items were collected from community members at eight City facilities, including: City Hall, Santa Clarita Sports Complex, Transit Maintenance Facility, Central Park, the City’s Corporate Yard, and the Newhall, Valencia and Jo Anne Darcy Library in Canyon Country Libraries.

“The City of Santa Clarita is proud to host an annual food drive every summer to ensure that residents enjoy a high quality of life regardless of their financial situation,” said Mayor Marsha McLean. “On behalf of the Santa Clarita City Council I want to extend a big thank you to everyone in the community who participated in the event, which provided approximately 2,115 meals to Santa Clarita families.”

The City of Santa Clarita partners with the SCV Food Pantry for a summer food drive as food and monetary donations are historically at a low point during the summer months.  The Drive helps the Food Pantry staff meet the needs of families during the challenging summer months, in addition to helping stock the shelves for the busy and demanding back to school season.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry has been distributing food to low-income residents of the Santa Clarita Valley since 1986. The Food Pantry relies on donations from the community to provide supplemental food on a short-term basis to qualified, local residents.
