SANTA CLARITA, Calif – Golden Valley senior golfer Elisa Pierre shot a 5-over 76 Tuesday at the 2015 CIF High School Girls Golf Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach.
Pierre was 5-over after four holes, but fought back with birdies on 5, 10 and 11. Additional bogeys on 6, 8 and 16 brought her to 5-over for the day on the course that was one of three that hosted the PGA Tour’s Pebble Beach National Pro-Am from 1991 to 2009.
“I started off very rough,” Pierre said after the round. “But just like last week I’m glad I just kept battling. I told myself this does not define your high school career. I was so excited to be here. It didn’t go as I planned but I had a lot of fun.”
“I thought after she struggled, she showed why she’s such a great competitor,” said Golden Valley girls golf coach Tony Moskal. “What she did was bounce back and that’s how champions deal with adversity.”
Pierre, the three-time Player of the Year in the Foothill League and only girls golfer from Santa Clarita to qualify for the state championship twice, finished tied for 14th in the 59-player field, seven strokes behind state champion Alyaa Abdulghany from Corona del Mar.
