July is typically when our summer really kicks off in Santa Clarita, with an abundance of summertime activities. Don’t miss one great event – check out the City’s website for details on free summer concerts, dive-in movies at City pools, hiking and so much more at santa-clarita.com.

This month, there are some great local events you and your family are sure to enjoy, starting with the Fourth of July celebration. The annual Fourth of July parade is held at 9 a.m. in the Newhall and Valencia areas of our city and draws thousands every year. The 2016 parade theme is “Volunteering Makes Us Stronger: Celebrating America’s Independence, in Memory of Duane Harte,” and the parade Grand Marshal is L.A. County Sheriff Jim McDonnell. If you enjoy a good morning run, you should definitely consider checking out the Fourth of July Santa Clarita Runners Club 5K-10K run-walk. The 10K run starts at 7 a.m., and the 5K begins at 8 a.m., both at Newhall Park. The race course follows the Fourth of July parade route. There’s also a “fun run” event for the kids. The end of a perfect Santa Clarita Fourth of July culminates with a free fireworks show. The city of Santa Clarita hosts an exciting fireworks show at the Westfield Valencia Town Center beginning at 9:15 p.m. The colorful display is a great way to cap off a fun day of festivities. You can also enjoy a simultaneous soundtrack broadcast live on KHTS-AM 1220. More information about the fireworks show is available at santa-clarita.com/arts.
