Two cyclists injured in a Saturday morning collision in Lancaster did not live in Valencia as previously reported, a Sheriff’s official said Sunday.
Sgt. Robert Rush of the Lancaster Sheriff’s office confirmed the identies of husband-and-wife cyclists Nathan and Deborah Rippy, both in their 30s and both from Lancaster.
A Sheriff’s Department statement to the media Saturday night listed the couple as living in Valencia, but that was incorrect, Rush said.
Rather, the driver of one of the two vehicles involved in the collision was a Valencia resident, he said.
The name of the Valencia resident, a 42-year-old Hispanic woman, was not available Sunday, nor was it known which vehicle she was driving.
The collision occured around 8 a.m. Saturday when a PT cruiser crashed into a minivan at the intersection of Avenue L and 4th Street East in Lancaster. The force of the collision pushed the minivan into the Rippys, who were participating in an organized bike ride with about 18 other cyclists.
Nathan Rippy was critically injured with a head wound. Deborah Rippy sustained moderate injuries.
The driver of the other vehicle was a 43-year-old white female from Palmdale.
