Los Angeles County sealHere are agenda highlights for the next meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, set for Tuesday, July 11, starting at 9:30 a.m.:

Elemmar Valle and Michael Johnson recognized for receiving scholarships awarded by the Sybil Brand Commission on Institutional Inspections.

Ambassador and Consul General Jiang Liu of the People’s Republic of China, recognized by Supervisor Barger.

Robert Clendening recognized for being named “Employee of the Year” for the Department of Public Works.

Actors’ Gang honored in recognition of their program, the Prison Project.

Captain John Meffert commended in recognition of his heroic efforts in saving the lives of two individuals from a plane crash while surviving the accident himself.

Supervisor Hahn authorizes the Community Development Commission to accept and incorporate up to $897,183 for the proposed Privacy and Access Project to retrofit Fire Station 110. (1-D)

Supervisors Solis and Ridley-Thomas direct the Chief Executive Officer, in consultation with various other departments, to establish a Fair Chance Ordinance. (Item 5, Item 7)

Supervisors Solis and Barger instruct County Counsel and the Director of Animal Care and Control to draft an ordinance that increases the number of dogs allowed in a single family residence from three to four. (Item 6)

Supervisors Ridley-Thomas and Kuehl instruct the Chief Probation Officer, and other departments, to partner with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to develop a pilot education and vocational training program for at-risk youth. (Item 8)

Report by the Chief Executive Officer on Board-established priorities. (Item 16)

Recommendation to approve the County’s Plan for Refugee Social Services and Targeted Assistance. (Item 23)

Reject all bids and adopt, re-advertise and award a construction contract for the Santa Anita Dam Spillway Modification Project at an estimated construction contract total between $28,000,000 and $39,000,000. (Item 34)

Authorize the Director of Internal Services to proceed with the sole source acquisition of two Sikorsky S70i Black Hawk helicopters and approve a related financing plan for a total amount not to exceed $29,430,000. (Item 38)

Authorize settlement of the matter entitled Jose Hernandez, et al. v. County of Los Angeles, et al., alleging negligence, assault and battery by Sheriff Deputies while they responded to an altercation with a neighbor, in the amount of $2,000,000. (Item 49)

Authorize settlement of the matter entitled N.L.A.,et al. v. County of Los Angeles, et al., a wrongful death lawsuit alleging Federal civil rights violations and excessive force when Plaintiff was shot while he fought and fled from Sheriff’s Deputies, in the amount of $2,970,000. (Item 50)

In closed session, Board to consider:

  1. Interview and consideration of candidate(s) for appointment to the position of Public Defender (CS-2).
