Be a part of history as Special Olympics Santa Clarita Valley & Tri-Valley establish a Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Bunco Tournament on July 27. The record event will take place at the College of the Canyons Gymnasium, 26465 Rockwell Canyon in Santa Clarita, at 3:30 p.m.

The record will be tracked by a signed roster of all players in the tournament with additional photographs and video taken during the event. The goal is to have 400 Bunco players competing to raise awareness and funds for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for the community to come together and support a great cause,” said Lt. Mark McCorkle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Bunco Committee Chair. “Bunco is a fun and simple game for all ages and a special, unique experience to set a world record.” The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics Southern California. In 2012, more than 500 Southern California officers, including McCorkle, and 120 law enforcement agencies raised $1.2 million.

The World’s Largest Bunco Tournament fundraiser will consist of a short training session prior to the game start to allow Bunco attendees of any experience level to play and enjoy the tournament. Tickets are $35 per person. There is also a dinner, a silent auction featuring work by Thomas Kincaid and vacation packages, a raffle including amusement park tickets and hotel accommodations and prizes for the tournament players. All proceeds will benefit local Special Olympics athletes. Athletes will be participating in the tournament and on hand helping with the event.
