LONG BEACH, Calif. – The bats came alive for the No. 22 Trojans at Long Beach State’s Blair Field on Tuesday evening, defeating the Dirtbags 7-4.

Propelled by a career five-hit day for David Oppenheim (Mercer Island, Wash./College of the Canyons), along with the team-leading third home run of the year for Adalberto Carrillo (Santa Ana, Calif./Tustin HS), the Trojans came-from-behind to take the victory.

The Dirtbags (5-3) got on the board first, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of two hits and two errors by the Trojan defense.

However, the Trojans (5-3) answered right back with five runs of their own in the top of the second. AJ Ramirez (Phoenix, Ariz./Bakersfield Christian HS) drew a walk to lead off the inning, and Carrillo cut the deficit to one with one swing of the bat, cranking his team-leading third home run of the year. The Trojans were aided by the Dirtbags’ first of three errors in the game, and got RBIs from Jeremy Martinez (Fountain Valley, Calif./Mater Dei HS) and Timmy Robinson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View HS).

The Dirtbags answered with a run in the bottom of the second innings to pull within two, 5-3.

The Trojans took their 5-3 lead to the third inning, where Trojan starter CJ Stubbs (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) put up a zero. He finished his second career start with a no-decision in three innings of three hit, four run (all unearned) baseball.

The Trojans added one more run in the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-4. On the mound, Mason Perryman (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield HS) was outstanding in his first official outing of his sophomore campaign, going three complete innings of scoreless baseball to eventually earn the win.

Reliever Joe Navilhon (Brentwood, Calif./Chabot College) faced the minimum in two innings of work, giving way to Brooks Kriske (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS), who earned his first save of the year after the Trojans added one more run in the top of the ninth on a wild pitch.

The Trojans have now had at least one base runner in 15-straight innings and counting, dating back to last Sunday’s game against Wake Forest.

Overall five different Trojans had two or more hits in the win.

Despite the win however, the Trojans stranded 16 base runners, the most all season.

The Trojans return home to host Oklahoma on Friday, May 4 at 6 p.m. PT at Dedeaux Field to kick off the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic.
