If you’ve been looking for a less-intense opportunity to participate in the annual Santa Clarita Marathon and a chance to shake hands with City of Santa Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean and the City Council, then the Second Annual Mayor’s Walk is for you. Families, church groups, youth clubs and troops, and other community organizations are invited to participate in a fitness-inspired 3-mile walk on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 7:15 a.m. as part of the annual Santa Clarita Marathon events.
“The Mayor’s Walk is a great opportunity for families, groups, and individuals to walk a 5K with me and members of the Santa Clarita City Council, enjoying a morning of fitness with friends in support of a healthy community,” said Mayor McLean. “We are looking forward to this opportunity to get out and enjoy Santa Clarita’s beautiful trails and paseos, which are hallmarks of our community.”
The Mayor’s Walk begins 15 minutes after the start of the Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K run, at Mall Entrance and McBean (adjacent to the official Marathon start line), allowing participants to enjoy the Marathon’s opening ceremony festivities. The Mayor’s Walk course follows almost the same course as the 5K run along paseos and the South Fork Trail, but keeps walkers off main streets. The course concludes at the official Marathon finish line at Westfield Valencia Town Center, where participants are invited to enjoy the Whole Foods Recovery Zone and photo opportunities as available with the Mayor and City Council (participants should bring their own camera).
Mayor’s Walk participants receive a medal and commemorative T-shirt and the opportunity to get in motion with Mayor Marsha McLean and the Santa Clarita City Council.
The registration fee for the Mayor’s Walk is $15 per person until Sept. 30. From October 1 through November 5, the entry cost is $20 per person. Participants are encouraged to register online, but can also register by mail or at the Marathon Expo at Hyatt Regency on Saturday, November 5. A $3 processing fee applies to all mailed and in-person entries, but is not charged with online registration.
