Camp, Due North
It’s no secret that The Painted Turtle serves children throughout California. This week we’re going the extra mile and taking camp on the road to children in Northern California.
Our in-hospital program The Outpost will set up camp playrooms at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford on March 4th, Sutter Children’s Center in Sacramento on March 5th, Children’s Hospital Oakland on March 6th, and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital on March 7th.
Following a week of Outpost, we will partner with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital for two additional events in San Francisco. Camp on the Move on Saturday, March 8, will be a day of fun carnival games, crafts, singing, dancing, and a talent show for campers and families.
Then on Monday, March 10, The Painted Turtle and UCSF Benioff will host A Starry Evening of Music, Comedy, and Surprises at Davies Symphony Hall. We wish to thank our Northern California partners for helping us deliver the magic of camp to children near and far. Tickets are still available. Don’t miss out on this star-studded event!
Refueling for the Road
This weekend participants will lace up their sneakers to run the LA Marathon and Big 5K in support of our campers. Give them the extra push to reach our challenge grant – all donations in honor of the team will be matched!
On Friday, March 7, we’re teaming up with Lemonade restaurant locations to get them ready for the race. Come on by the Brentwood and Larchmont locations on March 7th and 10% of your dinner tab will be donated to The Painted Turtle.
Want to join the next Team Turtle event? On Saturday, May 10, we will be walking and running in the Santa Barbara Half-Marathon.
Right on Target
At The Painted Turtle we’re all about empowering campers to make new friends, try new things, build self-confidence, and become more independent in their medical care. In short, we aspire to help campers discover all that is possible in their lives.
During the summer of 2012, Painted Turtle campers and families participated in a study so we could better understand the long-term effects of camp. The Yale Child Study Center results show that camp programs are right on target – 80% of campers reported an increase in self-esteem, but that’s just the beginning of our impact. Learn more.
