Two traffic collisions in the Grapevine involving at least five vehicles about the same time early Monday morning scattered debris across all lanes and prompted a lengthy cleanup.

Despite the number of vehicles, no one was reportedly injured.

Shortly after 4:45 a.m., emergency response crews responded to reports of a traffic collision with vehicles blocking lanes on southbound Interstate 5, just south of Templin Highway, California Highway Patrol Officer Josh Greengard said.

“When they got there, they found it was two separate collisions, five vehicles in total,” he said, describing it as it was one two-vehicle crash and one three-vehicle crash.

“A couple of the cars were on the shoulder when we got there,” Greengard said.

Responding CHP officers found some of the vehicles blocking lanes.

It took them a few minutes to clear the lanes by moving the vehicles to the right shoulder.

“The collisions caused a decent amount of debris,” Greengard said, listing parts of taillights, headlights, bumpers and other metal and plastic parts from the vehicles to be scattered across all lanes.

Firefighters with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to the crash at 4:51 a.m. and arrived at 5:05 a.m., Fire Department spokesman Marvin Lim said.

Nobody was injured at the scene, he said.

Firefighters remained at the crash site for more than two hours.

Lanes were closed for at least 40 minutes while debris was cleaned up and cars moved out of the lanes, Greengard said.
