Futbol Club Santa Clarita held its first of three tryouts over the weekend at Central Park, attracting players from near and far, the club said.
FCSC is a developmental feeder to FC New York, which plays in the National Premier Soccer League. Forming now in Santa Clarita, it’s a professional men’s soccer club that geared toward young adult players in the Santa Clarita Valley who want to advance in their sport.
Club officials said the recent two-day tryouts attracted 22 players who showed up for a chance to play on the team in 2012. Among them were Jonathan Davison and Ian Tomlinson of England, Nura Mouktar of Nigeria, Afredo Sainz of Bolivia, and several young SCV players including Jorge Hernandez of Valencia and Frank Diaz of Canyon Country.
Training camp will begin next month and selected players will be notified, officials said.
“We feel very privileged to be here,” said club CEO Gerald Brunner. “ With the reception we have gotten so far we feel confident that we will will be able to fulfill our vision of committing to the development of a unification of fans, players, parents, coaches and the entire community.”
Brunner thanked the city of Santa Clarita for making the club feel welcome, and said FCSC has developed an “excellent relationship” with Carlos Marroquin of Planet Soccer and with the two-year-old Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s professional soccer club.
Dates for additional FCSC tryouts will be posted online at www.fcscproscoccer.com.
