Sometimes sharing a cup of java and enjoying some entertainment can have a multitude of benefits, including local nonprofit groups and international social causes.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently recommended Undergrounds, a pay-what-you-will coffeehouse in Valencia’s Real Life Church for the 2012 SCV Leadership Awards, in the category of “Best Community Spirit.”
Open to the community seven days a week, Undergrounds is a donation-only coffee house, asking customers to simply “pay what you feel it’s worth.” Each month, Undergrounds gives 10% of all donations to local non-profit organizations and other social causes around the world, including Children of the Nations in Uganda, where Real Life Church built a village for orphans.
Located “underground” at 23841 Newhall Ranch Road, Undergrounds also welcomes Santa Clarita’s local artists to its stage. On Friday nights, Undergrounds hosts independent musicians, comedy nights, fine art and photography shows, and more. Events have no cover charge, and patrons can donate directly to the artist
Coffee, community, and culture—it’s all part of the “best community spirit” at Undergrounds, where the motto is, “Drink coffee. Do good.” Visit www.coffeeundergrounds.com for more information.
