“This is an emergency message for CSU, Northridge. This is an update regarding the earlier man with gun message. Police officers have detained and released 4 individuals meeting the description of the man with a gun. No weapon was found. Officers continue to search the campus area.

“Description of the suspect is a male, light complexion, early 20s, dark brown short hair, with a five o’clock shadow, red T-shirt under black zip-up hoodie, blue jeans, black backpack, seen carrying a small, silver, automatic pistol. Suspect was last seen exiting the lower west doors of the Oviatt Library walking southbound on the Oviatt lawn.”

 

Wed., April 24, 2013:

“This is an emergency message for California State University, Northridge. This is the Department of Police Services. We have received a report of a man with a gun last seen exiting the basement of the Oviatt library.

“Description of the suspect is male, light complected, red T-shirt under a black jacket, black backpack carrying a silver gun. Police are actively searching the area. Avoid area.

“Call 818-677-2111 or 911 for help. This concludes this message.”

    I’m frustrated with CSUN. My daughter was in class when this happened and her teacher made them leave class. So she went to the library, which I guess might actually be a great place to be because the guy was seen leaving. But really, for safety’s sake, shouldn’t they have stayed in class? I’m getting recorded messages alerting me to the situation and telling people to stay out of the area while my daughter is sitting IN the library and no one is on alert and all she sees outside is one police car.
