It looks like West Ranch has some company atop the Foothill League baseball standings.

Saugus stunned West Ranch with a 6-4 win and created a three-way tie for first place in the Foothill League standings after five games.

Saugus second baseman Austin Rodriguez drove in two runs and starter Justin Donatella, pictured at right, gave up two runs in six innings.

Chad Bennett came in with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and recorded the last three outs for the save.

Across town, Hart beat Golden Valley, 9-5, in extra innings to join West Ranch and Saugus in first place in the Foothill League standings.

CJ Witkowski hit two home runs for Hart.

Valencia beat Canyon, 2-1. Trey Williams homered for Valencia and starter Connor Chase tossed a complete game.

In high school softball, Hart shut out Highland 2-0, scoring both runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie.

Hart starter Blake Lewis tossed her first shutout of the season, a four-hitter.

The West Ranch softball team beat Chaminade, 4-1. Alissa Peterson drove in two runs and Lauren Lindvall hit a solo home run for West Ranch.

In high school golf, the West Ranch boys won the second Foothill League match of the season at Robinson Ranch by 17 strokes over Saugus, 381-398. Isaac Kim from West Ranch shot the low round of the match, a 3-under 68 on the par-71 Mountain Course.

In high school swimming, Abby Weitzeil won the 100-yard freestyle and set the Foothill League record in the race pacing Saugus to a 110-60 win over Canyon in a meet at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center.

Her time of 51.02 seconds broke the record held by Hart’s Chelsea Griffiths.

The Saugus boys won their meet, 95-75, over Canyon.

In drag racing, Johnny Ahten and his dragster named Stump Puller won the IHRA Nitro Jam in Arizona. He claimed the second Ironman trophy of his career.

Ahten, the captain at Fire Station 76 in Valencia, beat Bill Evans in the final round.

The Dodgers lost to the San Francisco Giants, 4-1, in a Cactus League game in Arizona. James Loney was 2-for-4 and drove in the only run for the Dodgers.

In hockey, the Kings shut out the Calgary Flames, 3-0. Goaltender Jonathan Quick recorded his ninth shutout and set the club record for shutouts in a season.

Rogie Vachon held the previous mark of eight shutouts in the 1976-77 season.
