[KHTS] – WalletHub placed Santa Clarita 15th in its 2015 list of “Best and Worst Cities” to find a job, according to the financial social media site.

“In order to help employment seekers find the strongest local job markets in the U.S., WalletHub analyzed 150 of the most populated cities across 16 key metrics,” according to the website. “Our data set ranges from job opportunities to employment growth.”

Finding a Job in Santa Clarita, according to WalletHub (1=Best; 75=Avg.)

15th – Overall

10th – Employment Growth

31st – Unemployment Rate for High School Graduates

37th – Monthly Median Starting Salary

6th – Median Annual Income Adjusted for Cost of Living

75th – Housing Affordability

4th – Crime Rate

16th – Job Market Rank

25th – Socioeconomic Environment Rank

To find the best and worst job markets in the U.S., WalletHub analyzed the 150 most populated cities across two key dimensions, namely “Job Market” and “Socioeconomic Environment,” according to their website. We assigned a heavier weight to the former as these factors most heavily influence a job seeker’s decision in terms of relocation for employment.

“We then identified 16 metrics that are relevant to those dimensions,” according to the website.

For example, in order to get the information on “Job Market,” the website analyzed these factors:

Job Opportunities (Number of Job Openings Minus Number of Unemployed People): Double Weight
Employment Growth (Rate of Annual Job Growth, Adjusted for Working-Age Population Growth): Full Weight
Monthly Median Starting Salary: Full Weight
Unemployment Rate for High School Graduates: Full Weight
Unemployment Rate for People with Bachelor’s Degree or Higher: Full Weight
Industry Variety: Full Weight
Full-Time Employment (Number of Part-Time Employees for Every 100 Full-Time Employees): Half Weight
Percentage of Employed Workforce Living Under Poverty Line: Full Weight
Disability Friendliness (Percentage of Employed Workforce with Disabilities): Half Weight

Santa Clarita was also recently ranked No. 79 on the list of America’s “Best & Worst Cities for Singles.”
The personal finance social network also named Santa Clarita among the top cities for families in America in 2014.

Additional Information About WalletHub And 2015 Findings

With “getting a better job” being one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions in the U.S., non-farm employment expected to grow by nearly 220,000 jobs per month and unemployment to fall to 5.4 percent by the fourth quarter in 2015, the leading personal finance social network WalletHub conducted an in-depth analysis of 2015’s Best & Worst Cities to Find a Job.

It’s a new year, which, for many, is also a time to renew one’s goals. Some will resolve to make small changes while others might consider overhauling their lives. But among the most popular New Year’s resolutions, finding a job or getting a better one consistently makes the list.

For those in search of employment opportunities, 2015 seems a good time to be on the job market, depending, of course, on where one lives. According to the National Association for Business Economics, non-farm employment will grow by nearly 220,000 jobs per month while unemployment will fall to 5.4 percent by the fourth quarter.

In terms of job prospects and earning potential, college grads will have the upper hand.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers reported that nearly 80 percent of recruiters expect to hire graduates with bachelor’s degrees in 2015, compared with only 2.9 percent for those with an associate degree and 14.2 percent with a master’s though these numbers are relatively unchanged from the previous year.

In addition, a record two-thirds plan to raise starting salaries by an average of 3.7 percent for Class of 2015 graduates with bachelor’s degrees.

  1. Santa Clarita is a city of commuters. Finding a job is damn near impossible unless you like six flags, and even they have a waiting list.

  2. This is a bad representation except for being last on the list for housing affordability.
