Santa Clarita High School Volleyball
Valencia has thoroughly dominated the Foothill League this season, with an impressive streak of 20 consecutive sets won and no signs of slowing down after crushing Golden Valley yesterday. The Vikings only allowed 32 points to the Grizzlies in three sets.
Two more matches remain for the #7 ranked team in CIF-SS Division 1A, and its off to the playoffs.
The lone challenger to the undefeated Vikings also took care of business Tuesday, as the Hart Indianstook a step closer to their showdown with Valencia next week, sweeping the Saugus Centurions, 3-0.
It will be the great rivalry for Foothill League supremacy next Tuesday with Valencia traveling across town to take on Hart.
West Ranch maintained their stranglehold on the third place spot in the league, downing hapless Canyonin straight sets. The Wildcats evened their Foothill League record at 4-4 with the win.
By far the most exciting match in the valley yesterday occurred at Santa Clarita Christian, a five-game thriller between the Knights and Cardinals.
Trinity went in to game three down 2-0 and rallied to force a decided 5th game before finally falling.
With the win, the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals become the 2015 Heritage League champions. Congratulations to the Cardinals on their stellar season, with more to come for the #1 Divison 5AA team with a playoff run still ahead.
The Master’s College
The Lady Mustangs’ seven match winning streak was halted at Bross Court Tuesday by the #1 team in NAIA, Biola University. It was a disappointing night for the TMC Mustangs, who were swept at home for just the second time all season.
They now must regroup for a huge match with major GSAC implications Saturday when they travel to undefeated GSAC rival Vanguard.
2015 World Series
New York and Kansas City needed 14 innings to decide Game One of the World Series Tuesday night. Alex Gordon extended the game in the bottom of the 9th with a clutch solo home run for the Royals to tie the game at 4-4, and then more than half another game (in innings) was needed to crown a winner.
Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer came up to bat in the bottom of the 14th, notching a sacrifice fly to score Alcides Escobar from 3rd base.
The same Alcides Escobar who scored an inside-the-park home run in the 1st inning, the first of its kind in the Series in over 75 years.
Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City will be the place to be again tonight. Game Two pits more power pitchers against each other, with Jacob deGrom vs Johnny Cueto. First pitch is at 5:07.
Los Angeles Lakers
Your Los Angeles Lakers open the 2015-16 NBA season tonight at Staples Center against the Minnesota Timberwolves, and there are several storylines to watch for with this edition of the Lake Show.
Kobe Bryant enters his 20th season as the second-longest tenured player in the NBA. After not finishing each of the last two seasons due to injury, fans just want to see Kobe exit his incredible playing career with grace, and although the Black Mamba’s contract expires after this season, is there a chance he could return to the NBA for #21?
Speaking of 21 NBA seasons, only one player enters this season in his 21st and is the longest-tenured player in the NBA. That player is Timberwolves’ legend Kevin Garnett.
Even more intriguing for these two teams is their young players’ development. Both the #1 and #2 overall draft picks from this past June’s draft will be on the court tonight, in Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell, respectively.
Will Russell, the most exciting young talent at guard for the Lakers since Kobe entered the league, get the start at Point? We’ll find out tonight, with tip-off coming at 7:30PM.

Any sports reporter who refers to a high school team as “hapless” is a complete numbskull who shouldn’t be allowed to report on anything other than dog feces on public sidewalks.
