The Saugus Union School District is proud to report increased performance at every grade level in both Language Arts and Math on the annual 2015-16 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.
In addition to increased academic scores, the District was recognized with 14 California Gold Ribbon awards, 2 Arts Achievement awards, and 3 Title One Achieving awards for model signature practices in the 2015-16 school year.
“The State of California now uses eight priorities in the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) to ensure that all students are receiving a high quality education,” said Dr. Christine Hamlin, Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction. “One of those eight measures is academic achievement and clearly the District continues to make consistent growth in that measure a priority.”
Annual Performance:
The percentage of students who met or exceeded the standards increased in both English Language Arts and Math at every grade level. The performance trend in Language Arts grows from 62% in third grade to 70% in sixth grade. The highest math scores (58%) are found at both third and sixth grade.
Annual Progress:
For the first time, the results from CAASPP can be correlated year over year to show individual student growth and grade level cohort growth. For students who met or exceeded the standards, the data in Language Arts indicates an 8% growth at all grade levels. In Math, the highest rate of growth was indicated at the sixth grade level (17%).
Subgroups:
Particular attention is paid to students who are not yet successful in meeting the standards overall as well as English Language Learners and the District’s economically disadvantaged students. The data show students in these groups are rapidly accelerating towards meeting or exceeding the standards.
Added Hamlin: “We are proud of our teachers and students for their diligence, their growth mindset, and their performance.”
Individual student reports are being sent home over the next two weeks. Parents will have an opportunity to review them at Parent Teacher Goal Setting Conferences at the end of September. A detailed report of scores can be found at http://caaspp.cde.ca.gov/.

Good job Saugus teachers and staff! My kids both went through all Saugus schools. Great to hear they’re doing well.
