Riley Joseph Guerrero

An 18-year-old Utah man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of spreading a Santa Clarita Valley street gang’s graffiti “from the west side to the east side of St. George (Utah),” according to a police sergeant quoted in the St. George News.

Detectives were able to narrow the search to individuals known to have ties to the gang. (We’re withholding the gang name.)

Ultimately they arrested Riley Joseph Guerrero, who claimed someone was trying to set him up, according to the news report.

“Riley denied he did the graffiti,” according to a probable cause statement by one of the detectives, as quoted by the St. George News. “He said it was someone else. I asked him if he claimed (SCV gang name). Riley said he used to, but got out of the game a few months ago.”

Guerrero allegedly confessed to tagging one of the locations, the Dixie High School LDS seminary building.

He was arrested and charged with second-degree felony graffiti vandalism exceeding $5,000, as well as two third-degree felony weapons charges and possession of methamphetamine.
