Two local girl scouts are teaming up with Barnes & Noble to provide books and make a difference for patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Kaleigh Crawford and Paxton Downs are both freshman at Saugus High School and decided to give back to CHLA in an effort to complete their Silver Project, or community service project.
The award requires that the girls identify a problem in the community, create a solution and solve the issue.
One of the girls has been an ongoing patient at CHLA since she 4-years-old and came up with the idea to give back when she saw a Facebook post stating that the Literally Healing Program was running short on books.
The Literally Healing Program at CHLA gives out new books to any patient that requests them during their stay at the hospital and gives out about 3,000 books per year.
The books must be new to meet infection control standards and gift cards are welcome due to storage constraints and special requests.
From August 14 to August 22 Barnes & Noble in Valencia will be taking books for the drive. The girls will also have supplies on hand to make bookmakers and get well cards.
